Sewing Bee - Faded layers

Here we are again creating for the Compendium of Curiosities 3, challenge - wow that's  a lot of 'C's'
This challenge 8 so still plenty of time to join in . Here is the link

 http://lindaledbetter.com/2014/08/compendium-of-curiosities-3-challenge-8.html

It's worth having a go as there are some great sponsor prizes , this time there is a $25 dollar spending spree at The Funkie Junkie boutique for a lucky winner  http://www.thefunkiejunkie.com/Default.asp

Tim Holtz and his manager Mario are generously supplying lots of goodies you can receive if you are the Curiosity teams choice . So here's hoping !!! Below is my entry

I am not allowed to show you the technique for faded layers in respect for Tim Holtz
Work in the book. But I layered my layers , if you see what I mean :-)
Inside the box windows.  You can see it under the bee. Lovely effect.

The wooden storage unit is shown above & below stained with
Tim Holtz peacock feathers distress stain as I wanted the wood grain to still show
I later added some persimmon to the corners too.

Then I spritzed some butterscotch color wash inside, accenting with
Some red smooch spritz as 2nd photo below

I had a nice little dress form , ideal , used my distress
Stains again (can't you just tell they are new !)
Burnished bronze , gorgeous

I had some metal industrial left from a previous project (clock) so added it to my dress
Form after de-bossing & inking over with Fresco finish French roast , see below.

My lovely new Bee die & embossing folder arrived, so would
Be rude not to use it ! I cut & embossed him in Tim Holtz paper
And also in Wendy Vecchi clearly for art.

The clearly for art bee (below)was then inked with alcohol inks & heated
With my heat gun so I could shape it before layering it on top of
The blue card bee above

This is the pack I cut the blue bee from, below

Here is the clearly for art pack. Fabulous stuff, stamp cut colour and shape !

He looks good here with his amber eyes I think !

From here on there was lots of embellishments & inking etc

The photo below shows the idea-ology measuring tape where
I added an eyelet and chain
To hang my little scissors from

This photo shows my cotton reel with some white ruffle stamped in red
                                                                 with 'Hand made'

I stamped 'Sewing' with the stamps below on a beige piece
from the pack shown here below

The paper pack had some great sewing bits I could cut out and ink
I also cut out the letter for 'BEE' here too & some flowers , see below.

Here are some close ups of some of the details.

  1. Janna...I love your idea of using the faded layers technique to create such a sweet little sewing box type of shadowbox. Your layered bee is beautiful! I love all of your little compartments and how you've created such interesting little collages in each. Just darling! Thanks for sharing your art with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
